The people behind

From Sailing Salvation to Reach the Streets

Jan-Peter and Lydia, a Dutch couple from the area of Gouda , set out for Curaçao in partnership with Operation Mobilization with a dream: to spread the gospel throughout the Caribbean. Under the name Sailing Salvation, they planned to travel by catamaran or sailboat, ready for the adventure and to share the good news wherever they docked—on the streets, the beach, at festivals, and among the sailing community. They worked alongside local churches and ministries to launch joint evangelism initiatives.

They left behind a stable and comfortable life, giving up promising careers, their home, time with family, and financial security to follow God’s calling. Now, they are embracing a radically different lifestyle, fully dependent on God every step of the way.

Jan-Peter is primarily focused on evangelism activities, while Lydia, alongside her part-time job, is the organizational powerhouse behind the ministry. But God’s plans turned out to be even greater.

In their first few weeks on Curaçao, they strongly sensed that God was calling them to establish a non-denominational evangelism organization. Yet, the time to start had not yet come. In hindsight, this was a blessing—the extra time allowed them to better understand the culture and navigate various challenges.

In December 2024, after a call to prayer, they received a powerful confirmation of a new name: Reach the Streets. Shortly afterward, God miraculously brought several major supporters onto their path. This was the moment to start building in earnest to make this vision reality !

With deep faith in God’s guidance and provision, they see Reach the Streets as an instrument for mayor spiritual breakthroughs—first on Curaçao and then throughout the Caribbean. Their dream is to unite evangelists, believers, and churches to make Jesus visible on the streets, in neighborhoods, and at events.

“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.’” Marc 16: 15-18 NIV
